Developing targeted treatments for dermatological conditions

CyPep-1 is currently in pre-clinical development for the treatment of warts, and also has applications in other dermatological disorders.

Warts

  • Tumours of the skin and mucosal surfaces
  • Arise from human papilloma virus (HPV) infected keratinocytes (skin cells)
  • High prevalence, about 5-10%
  • Current treatments for papillomas include podophyllotoxin, salicylic acid, bleomycin, cryotherapy, imiquimod and surgical excision

Molluscum contagiosum

  • Molluscum contagiosum presents as skin coloured papules, similar to warts.
  • Viral etiology
  • No prescription drugs are available
  • High prevalence in children about 5-10%

Seborrheic keratosis

  • It is estimated that seborrheic keratosis affects more than 500 million patients worldwide
  • No prescription drugs
  • Unknown etiology
  • High prevalence in adults over 40 years of age
